Update #20

Hello Pre-order Community!

We received the EVT build samples at the end of last week, and the first tests show that they’re working well!

  • They’re quieter than any previous sample, and the noise level is now similar to other powered toothbrushes on the market.
  • The oscillation strength is enough to resist normal brushing pressure but not so strong that it’ll cause gum damage. It feels good.
  • The brush lasts two minutes on a full charge in a testing scenario with minimal pressure applied.

  • When actually brushing on a full charge we've seen the time vary from 90-120 seconds, and that it actually feels normal to pause in the middle, spit, and twist the handle a couple more times to finish brushing. Check out this video to see it in action with a little explanation:

The EVT samples are packed in the first samples of our production packaging, and it’s looking good. The boxes are strong and secure for shipping, and they’ll be ready for your unboxing videos (please)!

Unboxing an EVT unit for the first time:

  • There will be a few weeks of Internal user testing, reliability testing in the lab, and gathering feedback from our partners and early testers.
  • Final engineering tweaks are in the works to refine the mechanism (explained in video above) and improve the production yield rate.
    • The yield rate refers to how many units pass/fail at the end of the assembly line, and this needs to be as close to 100% passing as possible. Otherwise, we’ll end up with a lot of unusable units that we can’t ship to backers.
    • The factory needs a combination of engineering refinements and production line process improvements to improve the yield rate, and that will all come together in the Production Validation & Testing (PVT) build.
  • Final tooling changes will be made based on the final engineering tweaks to get ready for the PVT build of a few hundred units.
  • We’ll prepare the timeline for the PVT build as the details above are confirmed and we’ll let you know about that as soon as we have the information.

In the next update:

Keep an eye out for backer reviews of these EVT units within the next month. We’re reaching out to a few more of the 20+ locals who signed up as new early testers as well as the testers who gave feedback on the P2 samples earlier this year. If you’re on the list and don’t hear from us now, you’ll hear from us after the next (larger) build when more units are available. Stay tuned!

When are these going to ship??

Of course that’s the big question, and we’ll be able to share a timeline for mass production after the PVT build. We appreciate your patience, and we’ll keep you informed as soon as we have a realistic schedule. We're closer than we've ever been, and it's only a matter of time before we ship; we feel you and only want to ship you something we're truly proud of!

Thank you so much for your patience and support!
